My name is Jody Michele Powers, and just like you, I am more than what people tend to see.

I was born with cerebral palsy I can't walk; I must use a power wheelchair to get around. I have limited use in my hands. I have a visual impairment, and I have a speech impairment.

Looking at just this description or just glancing at me in public, people come to assumptions about me. The biggest one is the idea that my life must not be very joyful or be worth living. The truth is, however, I am more than my disability. I am more than what you see.

Take a look at my wedding picture to the left for an example of what I mean. This picture implies several things that many don't automatically associate with people with disabilities. I am a woman who has alot to offer. My husband would say that I nurture and support him as much as he does me.

Of course, I'm also more than a wife. I'm a follower of Jesus, an artist, and a writer.

My relationship with Jesus is central to my life. From Him, I draw so much joy, strength, and peace that I cannot imagine worshipping anyone or anything else. (Every time I take another way, He leads me back to Himself.) Besides, I'm a total romatic. Jesus loved me so much He gave His life for me. He is so good that He never abandons me. Why wouldn't I follow Him?

As an artist, I like to use watercolor to creative positive energy. I also like to paint birdhouses and other decorations. Check out my art on the Art page.

As a writer, I desire to create pieces that cause people to stop and think. With Unmasking, I wanted to create a story that shows some of the complexities that come with living life with a disability.

With this website, I want you to realize that not only am I more than what people see, but so are you. No matter how people see you or how you see yourself, you are so much more.

Come back every couple of weeks to read encoouraging blurbs that will inspire you to live your life more joyfully and peacefully.
